Glenda Baskin Glover is an American educator who served as the president of Tennessee State University. She is also a certified public accountant (CPA) and a lawyer. She is one of only two African American women in the United States to have earned three important professional degrees: a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy), a CPA license, and a J.D. (Juris Doctor, which is a law degree).

Early Life and Education

Glenda Glover was born and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Her parents were active in the Civil Rights Movement.

She went to Tennessee State University and earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in mathematics. While at the university, she was the president of the Alpha Psi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. She joined this sorority in 1971.

After that, she continued her education. She received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in accounting from Clark Atlanta University in 1976. Later, she earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in business from George Washington University in 1990. She also completed a law degree, a Juris Doctor (J.D.), from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1994.

Career Highlights

Glenda Glover started her career as an accountant with a company called Arthur Andersen. She also worked as a senior vice president and chief financial officer for Metter Industries. She was also a manager at Potomac Electric Power Co.

From 1990 to 1994, she led the Department of Accounting at Howard University. After that, she became the dean of the College of Business at Jackson State University. In this role, she helped create the first Ph.D. program in business at a historically black college or university (HBCU) in the United States.

On January 2, 2013, Glenda Glover became the president of Tennessee State University. She was the first woman to hold this important position at the university. She retired from this role on June 30, 2024, after serving for eleven years.

In 2022, Dr. Glover was the vice chair of the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This board advises the President of the United States on matters related to HBCUs.

Awards and Recognition

In 2013, Glenda Glover was recognized by "Diverse Issues in Higher Education." They named her one of the "Top 25 Women in Higher Education."

Personal Life

Glenda Glover is married to Charles Glover. They have two adult children.

From 2018 to 2022, Glenda Glover served as the international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Before that, she was the president of the Beta Delta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
