Native Americans lived in Glover's Cave for a very long time. They used the cave as a home starting about 10,000 years ago. People continued to live there until about 1,000 years ago. This shows how useful the cave was for shelter and resources.
Studying the Past
An archaeologist named Raymond C. Vietzen studied the cave a lot. He worked there from the 1940s to the 1980s. He had permission from the Glover family, who own the land. Mr. Vietzen wrote a book about his discoveries in 1957. It was called The Saga of Glover's Cave.
A Place in History
Glover's Cave was once known by another name, "Bell's Cave." During the American Civil War, soldiers used the cave as a camp. It provided a safe and hidden place for them.
The cave is also known for a story about Jesse James. He was a famous outlaw. People say he might have used the cave as a hiding spot. This was supposedly when he was traveling in the area.
Protecting the Cave
Today, Glover's Cave is on private property. This means it is owned by individuals, not the public. The owners work to protect the cave. This helps to preserve its history and natural features.
