Where Does Davy Mannagrass Grow?

Davy mannagrass is found in western North America. It grows from Alaska all the way down to California. You can often spot it in wet areas, like along riverbanks.

What Does Davy Mannagrass Look Like?

This grass has thin stems that can grow quite tall, reaching up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) high. It spreads using underground stems called rhizomes.

The leaves of davy mannagrass can be flat or rolled along their edges. At the base of each leaf, there's a small flap called a ligule, which can be up to one centimeter long.

The flowers of this grass grow in a narrow, compact cluster. This cluster is called an inflorescence. The small flower parts, called spikelets, grow close to the main stem. Each spikelet is about one to two centimeters long. Inside each spikelet, there can be up to 14 or 15 tiny flowers, called florets. These florets have thin, membrane-like edges.
