God's Ark of Safety facts for kids
God's Ark of Safety is a unique Christian project located in Frostburg, Maryland, in the United States. It's led by Pastor Everett Spence. This amazing project involves building a giant replica of Noah's Ark, just like the one described in the Bible. It sits on a big hill right next to Interstate 68, and a sign tells everyone passing by: "Noah's Ark Being Rebuilt Here!"

Building a Giant Ark
How the Project Started
The idea for God's Ark of Safety began on Easter in 1976. The former Pastor, Richard Greene, started the plan to build this huge ark. Construction officially began in September 1976. Workers used over 3,000 tons of concrete to create the foundation for this massive structure.
How Big Is It?
The ark's foundation and the earthwork around it were designed to be the same size as Noah's Ark in the Bible. This means it's about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet tall. To help you imagine that, it's roughly one and a half times the length of a football field!
Still Under Construction
Even though work started many years ago, the structure is still being built. As of April 2025, it was still mainly a frame. The project continues to be a work in progress, drawing attention from people curious about its size and purpose.
The Ark in Books
The God's Ark of Safety project has been featured in several books. It's on the front cover and in a chapter of a book called Roadside Religion: In Search of the Sacred, the Strange, and the Substance of Faith by Timothy Beal. It's also mentioned in the book Scrambled Eggs at Midnight by Frostburg writer Brad Barkley. In that book, the Ark is listed as a place people should see when traveling across the country. Barkley also wrote about it in his story "The Way It's Lasted."
