Gugi-cha is a special kind of herbal tea that comes from China and Korea. It's also known as goji tea. This warm drink is made from parts of the goji plant, which is famous for its bright red berries.
Long ago, people often made this tea using the young leaves of the goji plant. Today, it's more common to use the older leaves or, most often, the goji berries themselves. When the tea is made from the berries, it's called gugija-cha or goji berry tea. If it's made from the leaves, it's known as gugiyeop-cha or goji leaf tea.
How to Make Goji Tea
Making goji tea is quite simple, whether you use berries or leaves.
Making Goji Berry Tea
To make goji berry tea, you will need about 20–25 g (0.71–0.88 oz) of dried goji berries.
- First, put the dried berries into a pot.
- Then, add two cups of water.
- Let the berries and water simmer (cook gently) together.
- You can add different flavors or sweeteners if you like, to make it taste even better!
Making Goji Leaf Tea
If you prefer goji leaf tea, you will need about 2–3 g (0.071–0.106 oz) of dried goji leaves.
- Place the dried leaves into a cup.
- Pour hot water over the leaves.
- Let the leaves steep (soak) for a few minutes.
- This will create a light and refreshing tea.
