History of Goldsboro

Goldsboro was founded around 1910 or 1911. It was started because of the Pecos Valley and Northern Texas Railway. The community got its name "Goldsboro" because of the shiny, gold-colored stones found in the nearby hills.

By 1940, Goldsboro had about 100 people living there. There were also two businesses serving the community. However, the number of people living in Goldsboro later decreased. Between 1980 and 2000, the population dropped to about 30 residents.

On March 14, 1982, a strong tornado, called an F3 tornado, hit Goldsboro. This storm caused a lot of damage in the area. For example, one house was mostly destroyed. The tornado also knocked down an oil rig.
