The Story of Gooby
Willy is an 11-year-old boy. He thinks strange creatures are hiding everywhere. He feels safe only inside his house. But then, his parents decide to move! Willy is not happy about a new school and a new home.
One day, a big surprise arrives. Gooby, Willy's old teddy bear, shows up at the new house. This Gooby is almost six feet tall! He can talk and wants to help Willy. Willy decides they will be best friends. But he must keep Gooby a secret from his parents.
Gooby gets bored when Willy is at school. He often causes a little trouble. He makes the nanny think there are bugs in the house. He also steals cookies from the kitchen. Gooby even searches the garage for parts. He wants to build Willy's dream race car. Sometimes, he sneaks into Willy's school. This means anyone could see him!
Willy's teacher goes on leave. A new teacher, Mr. Nerdlinger, takes her place. Mr. Nerdlinger writes children's books. He really wants to become famous. When he sees Gooby, he decides to photograph him.
Willy has trouble making friends. Gooby appears outside Mr. Nerdlinger's class. This makes Willy freak out. Willy and three classmates get two weeks of detention. This makes Willy's school reputation even worse.
On Halloween, Willy and Gooby go out during the day. Willy convinces Gooby to pretend to be his father in a costume. Willy makes friends with the popular kids. Gooby buys them all tickets to an action movie.
Gooby starts to feel jealous. Willy spends more time with his new friends. The two get into an argument. Gooby then runs away from home.
Willy's grades start to drop. His parents become worried about him. Gooby eventually returns one night. He convinces Willy to follow him to a surprise place. Willy's parents notice their son is missing. They call the police right away.
Meanwhile, Gooby shows Willy what he found. It's his father's childhood home! While exploring, Willy gets scared. He falls backward and breaks through the floor. He catches a metal pipe. It's too far down for Gooby to help him. Gooby uses Willy's cellphone. He calls Willy's father, who comes to the rescue.
After saving Willy, Gooby talks to Mr. Dandrige. He reminds him that his own father never spent enough time with him. Willy's mother and father decide to work less. They want to focus more on their son.
One day, the family is shopping. They are buying things to build Willy a playhouse. Mr. Nerdlinger tries to get pictures of Gooby. But Willy notices Gooby has wandered off. The family stops Mr. Nerdlinger.
