The History of Good Morning TV
The Good Morning show started in 1996. It first broadcast from Wellington, a city in New Zealand. Liz Gunn was the very first host of the show.
Moving to Auckland
In 1997, the show moved its production to Auckland. This is another big city in New Zealand. Here, Mary Lambie became a very well-known host. She hosted the show for many years, from 1997 to 2003.
Back to Avalon Studios
In 2004, the show moved again. This time, it went to TVNZ's Avalon Studios in Lower Hutt. This move made sense because Avalon Studios was already in the Wellington area. It was good to have a regular show based there.
Changes in Hosts and Show Length
In 2006, Good Morning started having two hosts. Brendon Pongia and Sarah Bradley began hosting together. The show also grew bigger in 2007. It changed from a two-hour show to a three-hour show on weekdays. News updates from ONE News were added at 10 am and 11 am.
Later in 2007, Steve Gray joined as a co-host. He had been reviewing films and DVDs for the show for 11 years. He co-hosted until the end of 2009. In 2010, Hadyn Jones, a former ONE News reporter, also became a co-host.
New Studio and New Hosts
In April 2011, TVNZ decided to sell its Avalon Studios. This meant Good Morning had to move again. The show moved to a new studio in Auckland. In 2012, new hosts took over. Jeanette Thomas and Rod Cheeseman replaced Sarah Bradley and Brendon Pongia.
Final Years of the Show
In 2013, the show became shorter again. It changed from three hours back to just one hour on weekdays. Rod Cheeseman left the show. Jeanette Thomas continued to host, along with Astar and Matai Smith. Melanie Kerr was also part of the team, presenting special product segments. The Good Morning show aired its last episode in December 2015.
