Goonoobah is an old and important house located at 42 King Street in East Maitland, Australia. It is considered a special historical site. This means it is protected because of its history and unique design. Goonoobah is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register.

Goonoobah's Story

Goonoobah was built a long time ago, between June 1841 and May 1842. It was built for George Furber. He was the owner of a hotel called the George and Dragon.

In 1896, a central hallway and main entrance were added. This entrance served both Goonoobah and the house next door, called Woodlands. Woodlands is also a heritage-listed building. Later, in 1930, both buildings were changed into three separate apartments.

What Goonoobah Looks Like

Goonoobah is one of two houses built side-by-side. They are made of sandstone, a type of rock. The houses are built in a style called Victorian Georgian. Woodlands, the house next door, is set back a bit further from the street.

Goonoobah has a large roof made of iron. It also has a curved verandah. This verandah has a cast-iron fence and columns. The house features French windows with shutters. You can also see three large chimneys. Two of these chimneys have pots on top.
