Gramoz Ruçi (born on December 6, 1951) is a well-known politician from Albania. He was the leader of the main group in the Parliament of Albania for the Socialist Party of Albania until 2017. In September 2017, he became the Chairman, or Speaker, of the Albanian Parliament. This is a very important job in the government.
Growing Up
Gramoz Ruçi was born in a village called Salari in southern Albania. He studied Chemistry in college. After graduating, he worked as a teacher in a town called Progonat.
In Progonat, he met his future wife. They got married in 1976. In 1985, Gramoz Ruçi decided to start a career in politics.
Political Journey
In 1988, Gramoz Ruçi became a leader for the Labour Party in his home district of Tepelena. In 1990, he was named the Minister of Internal Affairs. This means he was in charge of things like police and security for the country. He held this job for about two and a half months.
As Minister, he was also responsible for a group called the Directorate of State Security, often known as the Sigurimi. Its main job was to protect Albania and make sure the government's system stayed in place.
From 1992 to 1996, he served as the Secretary General of the Socialist Party. This party took over from the Labour Party. In 1997, he became a Member of Parliament for the Socialist Party.
In 2000, he was chosen to lead the Socialist Party's group in Parliament. He kept this important role until 2005. Later, in 2009, he became the head of the parliamentary group again.
Family Life
Gramoz Ruçi has a daughter named Ridvana. She works as a senior official for the Albanian ombudsman, which is a public official who investigates complaints against government organizations. She studied law at a university in Athens, Greece.
His son, Ledian, was born in 1985. He also studied in Athens, focusing on International Studies. Gramoz Ruçi can speak Albanian, Greek, and Italian. He has three grandchildren: two granddaughters named Mia and Hera, and a grandson named Roi, all from his daughter.
