The Parliament of Albania (called Kuvendi i Shqipërisë in Albanian, or just Kuvendi) is the main law-making body for the country of Albania. It is where elected people represent all the citizens of Albania. This Parliament has only one main group of members, which means it is "unicameral."

The Parliament is made up of at least 140 members. These members are chosen by the people in elections. They serve for a period of four years. Their main job is to discuss and create new laws for Albania.

What is the Parliament of Albania?

The Parliament of Albania is the highest law-making power in the country. It is also known as the Kuvendi. This group of elected people works to make sure the government serves the citizens.

The Parliament acts as the "representative body" of the people. This means that the members chosen in elections speak for the citizens. They bring the ideas and needs of the people to the government.

How Members Are Chosen

Members of the Parliament are chosen through special elections. These elections happen every four years. Citizens of Albania vote for the people they want to represent them.

The voting system used is called "closed party-list proportional representation." This means people vote for a political party, and seats in Parliament are given out based on how many votes each party gets.

The D'Hondt Method

The "D'Hondt method" is a way to count votes and decide how many seats each party wins. It helps make sure that smaller parties can also get some representation in the Parliament. This method aims to be fair to all parties based on their total votes.

Who Leads the Parliament?

The main leader of the Parliament is called the Speaker. The Speaker helps to run meetings and make sure discussions follow the rules. The current Speaker is Gramoz Ruçi.

There are also "parliamentary leaders" for different political groups. These leaders help guide their party's members in the Parliament. They work to make sure their party's ideas are heard.

Political Groups in Parliament

Inside the Parliament, members belong to different political groups or parties. These groups work together to achieve their goals. The main groups include the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party.

The "Government" group usually has the most members. They work to pass laws that support the current government's plans. Other groups form the "Opposition," and they challenge the government's ideas.
