The Granite Trust Company building is a cool old building in Quincy, Massachusetts. You can find it at 1400 Hancock Street. It's an Art Deco style building, which means it has a sleek, modern look with lots of straight lines. It was built in 1929 and stands ten stories tall. The famous architects J. Williams Beal, Sons designed it.
This building was once the main office for the Granite Trust Company. Before that, the bank was called the Quincy Stone Bank, and it was the very first commercial bank in Quincy. Because it's so important, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Granite Trust Company building stands out in downtown Quincy. It is located at the corner of Hancock and Chestnut Streets. This ten-story building is made from strong limestone and granite.
Building Design and Look
The building has a large base that is three stories high. From this base, a tall tower rises up. The very top parts of the tower are set back, making them smaller than the middle sections. The shops on the ground floor are made of granite. The upper floors are made of smooth limestone.
The building has some cool decorations, like special stone panels. But most of its style comes from its tall, vertical shape. You can see tall, flat columns between some of the windows on the lower part. The tops of these columns have flat, pyramid-like shapes.
History of the Bank
The Quincy Stone Bank started in 1836. It was the first commercial bank in the city. This bank was special because it was the first commercial bank in the entire country to get money by selling shares to the public.
In 1865, the bank became a national bank. Then, in 1912, it changed its name to the Granite Trust Company. The bank decided to build this impressive new headquarters. The building was finished in 1929. It was designed by J. Williams Beal, Sons, a well-known architecture firm from Boston. They designed many important buildings in Quincy.
