History of Granville

Granville has a long history, even though it's a small place today. A post office was opened here in 1858. A post office was very important back then because it was the main way people sent and received letters and packages. It also often served as a central meeting spot for the community. This post office stayed open for many years, finally closing its doors in 1907.

The community of Granville was named after an early settler named Granville Giles. Settlers were some of the first people to move to and build a community in a new area. Naming a place after a significant person like an early settler was a common practice in the past.
