On the west side of Great Saint James, you'll find Christmas Cove. This cove is a very popular spot for fun activities. People love to go snorkeling there. It's also a great place for day trip boats and yachts to anchor. There are 22 special buoys where boats can tie up overnight.
The History of Great Saint James Island
For a while, Great Saint James Island was owned by a woman. At one point, the island was valued at about US$3 million. After she passed away, the island was divided into parts. Three different people then inherited these parts.
Past Owners and Island Sales
The family of a Danish politician named Christian Kjær owned Great Saint James for many years. They had owned it since the late 1970s. Later, in 2004, a famous American football player, Jason Taylor, bought the island. He got help from two real estate business people, Robert Addie and Jorge M. Pérez.
However, after the purchase, there was a disagreement that led to a legal case. This case lasted for a long time, until December 2013. In the end, Jason Taylor got back most of the money he had paid upfront for the island. This was reported by the Miami Herald newspaper.
