What is Greenwich Dance?
Greenwich Dance is a group that supports dance in many ways. They organise events and classes. Their main goal is to share the joy of dance. They work with dancers and communities.
A Brief History
Greenwich Dance started a long time ago in 1993. For many years, their main home was at the Borough Hall. This was a busy place for dance activities. In 2018, they moved their offices. Their new location became Charlton House.
Fun Activities and Festivals
Greenwich Dance organises exciting events every year. They are part of the Royal Greenwich Festivals. Two big festivals they create are Greenwich Dances and the Greenwich World Cultural Festival. The World Cultural Festival takes place at Eltham Palace. These festivals bring lots of different dance styles to people.
In 2010, a big project called Big Dance asked for their help. Greenwich Dance became a special "hub" for Big Dance. This meant they helped organise dance events. They covered four London areas: Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, and Lewisham.
Greenwich Dance is also a registered charity. This means it's a non-profit group. They get money from places like Arts Council England. They also receive funding from the Royal Borough of Greenwich. This money helps them keep their dance programs going. Until 2018, they were part of a special group. This group was called the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of Organisations.
