Helacor S.A. is an Argentine company famous for its chain of ice cream parlors called Grido Helado. The company was started in 2000 by Oscar Santiago and his sons. They opened their very first shop in the city of Córdoba, Argentina.
Today, Grido is a huge success! It has over 1,900 shops, which are run as franchises. This means other people can own and run a Grido store using the company's name and recipes. These shops are found in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Peru.
Grido is the biggest ice cream chain in South America. The company makes an amazing 82 million kilograms of ice cream every year.

The Story of Grido
Early Family Business
The company's story starts long before Grido existed. In the 1920s, a man named Lucas Santiago sold ice cream for a popular brand. Later, he and his family started their own ice cream business called "Marvic" in the city of Córdoba.
This first business taught the Santiago family a lot about making and selling ice cream. Using what they learned, they decided to create a new company in 2000. They called it Grido, which means "scream" in Italian, like "I scream for ice cream!"
How Grido Grew So Fast
Grido grew very quickly. In its first year, it opened 10 shops. A year later, it had 50 stores, all in the city of Córdoba. By 2010, Grido had over 900 shops!
Because so many people wanted their ice cream, the company had to build a bigger factory. They moved production to a large plant in Ferreyra, a town near Córdoba. This allowed them to make enough ice cream for everyone.
The company's goal was to sell delicious ice cream at low prices. The founders felt that before Grido, ice cream was too expensive for many families in Argentina.
Going International
Grido didn't just stay in Argentina. In 2006, the company expanded to other countries, starting with Chile. In 2011, Grido opened its first shops in Uruguay. By then, it was already the largest ice cream chain in Latin America.
The company continued to grow, opening stores in Paraguay and reaching Peru in 2022. Grido even has a shop in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, meaning it has stores all across Argentina.
