Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Guernsey is a small, quiet place in Ohio, a state in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Guernsey County.

History of Guernsey

The area where Guernsey is located has a history tied to its name. A long time ago, in 1874, a post office was opened here. It was first called Wheeling. A post office was very important back then. It helped people send and receive letters and packages.

A few years later, in 1881, the name of the post office and the community changed. It became "Guernsey." This new name came from Guernsey County, where the community is located. It's common for small places to be named after the county they are in.

Where is Guernsey?

Guernsey is found in the northeastern part of Wheeling Township. It's in a pretty spot where two small streams meet. These streams are called Birds Run and Johnsons Fork.

The main part of the community, where the old post office and general store used to be, is near these streams. It's located along Guernsey Valley Road. This road is also known as County Route 86. The area is surrounded by the natural beauty of Guernsey County.
