How Gulf Coast Town Center Started
Planning for Gulf Coast Town Center began a long time ago. In 2003, it was announced that a Belk department store would be one of the first big shops there.
The mall opened in different stages. The first part, in 2005, included stores like Staples, Petco, and a Regal Entertainment Group movie theater. There was also a Babies "R" Us store, which is now two different shops: Five Below and Ulta Beauty.
Later, in 2007, the second part of the mall opened. This brought in a huge Bass Pro Shops store. Other stores that opened around this time included Costco, Best Buy, and several restaurants. A store called Linens 'n Things used to be here, but now it's a HomeGoods. There was also a JCPenney store, but it is now closed.
The final part of the mall was finished in 2008. This added stores like Ron Jon Surf Shop and Dick's Sporting Goods. A bookstore called Borders Books & Music also opened, but it is now closed.
