Gunhild Ziener (born Krakelsrud, 1868–1937) was an important Norwegian politician. She was a leader in the women's movement in Norway. She helped start the Norwegian Labour Party's Women's Federation in 1901. She was its first president. Gunhild also helped the group grow across the country. She even helped create their magazine, Arbejderkvinnen (The Working Woman).

Gunhild Ziener's Early Life

Gunhild Krakelsrud was born on August 19, 1868. Her birthplace was Ski, a town in the southern part of Norway. She grew up to become a strong voice for change.

Leading the Women's Movement

In 1895, Gunhild joined other women in the Labour Party. They formed the Norwegian Labour Party's Women's Federation. This group wanted to improve how the party shared its messages.

First President of the Federation

Gunhild Ziener first worked as a cashier for the group. Soon, she became a strong activist. She pushed for different groups to work together. These included workers' unions and political groups. In 1901, she became the first leader of the Women's Federation.

Growing the Organization

As a great organizer, Gunhild gave talks all over Norway. She called for important changes within the organization. In 1909, she helped launch the group's magazine. It was called Arbejderkvinnen, which means "The Working Woman." She was part of the magazine's editorial team until 1918.

Later Work and Support

Gunhild Ziener stepped down as the leader of the Women's Federation in 1904. However, she stayed on the executive board until 1918. She strongly supported women who worked in trade unions. In 1904, Martha Tynæs took over her role as the organization's leader.
