Gwendolen was the oldest child of Marmaduke Constable-Maxwell, who was the 11th Lord Herries of Terregles. Her mother was Angela Fitzalan-Howard. Her family was part of the British aristocracy, meaning they belonged to a group of people with special titles and a long history.
Gwendolen's Marriage and Family Life
On February 15, 1904, Gwendolen married Henry Fitzalan-Howard. He was the 15th Duke of Norfolk. Interestingly, Henry was also her first cousin once removed. This means his grandparent was her great-grandparent. Together, Gwendolen and Henry had four children.

Inheriting a Noble Title
In 1908, Gwendolen's father passed away. Because she was his oldest child and a daughter, she inherited a special title. This title was the Lordship Herries of Terregles. This made her the 12th Lady Herries of Terregles in her own right.
Later Life and Passing
Gwendolen Mary Fitzalan-Howard died at her home called Kinharvie House. This house was located near a place called New Abbey. After her death, a special church service, known as a Requiem Mass, was held for her at St Mary's in New Abbey. She was then buried in the Norfolk family burial vault. This vault is located at Arundel Castle in Sussex, England.
