The slender duskhawker (scientific name: Gynacantha kirbyi) is a type of dragonfly. It belongs to the Aeshnidae family, which includes many large dragonflies.
You can find this interesting insect in a few places around the world. It lives in northern Queensland, Australia, as well as the Maluku Islands, Tanimbar, and New Guinea.
About the Slender Duskhawker
The slender duskhawker is a large dragonfly. It usually has dull colors. One special thing about its body is that its abdomen (the long part behind its wings) looks very narrow at the third segment, almost like it has a "waist."
Female slender duskhawkers have a unique feature on their wings. Near the base of their wings, there is a brownish color.
When They Fly
This dragonfly is known as a crepuscular insect. This means it is most active and flies around during dawn (early morning) and dusk (early evening). You won't usually see them flying in the middle of the day or night.
