Gérard Férey (born July 14, 1941, died August 19, 2017) was a famous French chemist. He was a professor at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and a member of the important French Academy of Sciences. He was known for his work with the chemistry of solid materials. In 2010, he received the CNRS Gold Medal, which is one of France's top science awards.

About Gérard Férey

Gérard Férey started his career as a teacher at the University of Maine. In 1968, he helped create the Department of Chemistry in Le Mans. He earned his advanced degree, called a doctorate, from the Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University in 1977.

He taught at the University of Maine from 1981 to 1996. After that, he became a professor at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. From 1988 to 1992, he also helped lead the Chemistry Department at the French National Centre for Scientific Research.

On November 18, 2003, Gérard Férey was chosen to be a member of the French Academy of Sciences. This is a very high honor for scientists in France.
