Héctor Suárez Hernández (born October 21, 1938 – died June 2, 2020) was a famous Mexican actor, comedian, and director. He worked in movies and TV shows for 60 years, appearing in about 100 different productions.

Héctor Suárez was known for making fun of powerful people and talking about important social issues. He did this even when it was not common or easy to do in Mexico. His son, Héctor Suárez Gomís, is also an actor.

Early Life and Start in Acting

Héctor Suárez was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on October 21, 1938. He began his acting career in movies in 1964. His first film role was in a movie called El Asalto.

A Career Full of Laughter and Meaning

Héctor Suárez was very good at creating funny shows that made fun of rich people and those in charge. This was quite brave in the 1970s and 1980s, when the government was very strict.

He used a special kind of humor to talk about big problems. These problems included poverty, corruption, and changes in people's values. He showed this especially in his TV show called Qué nos pasa. In this show, he made fun of government officials and shopkeepers.

Suárez also starred in Qué nos pasa, playing many different characters. Some of his famous characters were:

  • Flanagan, a rock music fan who sometimes had a cool mohawk.
  • Dona Zoila, an older woman who cared a lot about how she looked.
  • El No Hay, a man who was often lazy and didn't care much about things.
  • Tomas, a young African-American child.

He also played a struggling working-class man in the 1983 movie El mil usos.

While Héctor Suárez was best known for his comedy roles, he also acted in serious movies. One example is the film Cesar Chavez. In 2013, he became the first comedian from Latin America to be "roasted" by other celebrities. This happened when Comedy Central Latin America started its roast show in Mexico.

Throughout his 60-year career, Suárez won many awards. These included three Diosas de Plata awards. This is a very important award given by Mexican journalists and filmmakers.

Family Life

In 1991, Héctor Suárez met Zara Calderón, who would become his wife. They had their first son, Rodrigo Suárez Calderón, in 1998. Thirteen years later, their daughter, Isabella Suárez Calderón, was born.
