Hacienda Dzoyolá is a special old estate located in the Mérida Municipality in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. It was built during a time in the 1800s when a plant called henequen was very important for making ropes and other products. Many haciendas like this one grew because of the henequen business.

What Does Dzoyolá Mean?

The name "Dzoyolá" comes from the ancient Mayan language. It means "where the water flows." This name likely refers to a natural water source found near the hacienda.

How to Find Hacienda Dzoyolá

If you were going to visit Hacienda Dzoyolá from Mérida, you would take Calle 42 south. You would cross a big road called the Periférico. After about 2 kilometers (about 1.2 miles), you would turn left onto Calle 29. Then, you would go another 2 kilometers to reach the hacienda.

A Look at Dzoyolá's History

Hacienda Dzoyolá was first built a long time ago, in 1750. Over the years, it faced some tough times. It was damaged by fire and then again during a big conflict in the 1800s called the Caste War of Yucatán. This war was a long struggle between the native Maya people and others in the region.

Originally, the hacienda was used to raise animals like cows. It has also been known for a long time for its connection to beekeeping. Bees are very important for making honey! In 2008, a group called the Maya Beekeeping Society of Yucatán even opened a honey processing center close to the hacienda.

The Beautiful Architecture of Dzoyolá

Over time, the hacienda became quite old and worn out. So, it was fully repaired and restored to look like it did in its traditional style. Today, Hacienda Dzoyolá has two large bedrooms and a dining room. It also features many terraces and colorful gardens. There is even a small chapel or shrine dedicated to San Cosme, who is considered the patron saint of the hacienda.

Because of its beauty, Hacienda Dzoyolá is often used for private events like weddings or parties. It is also a popular spot for photography sessions.
