Hadejia River facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Hadejia River is a river in northern Nigeria. It is an important part of the larger Yobe River system. The river flows through the towns of Hadejia and Nguru.

Engineers have built dams on the Hadejia River. These dams hold back water for irrigation, which means watering crops. This has changed how much water flows into the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands. These wetlands are a special natural area that the Hadejia River helps to form, along with Nguru Lake.

Today, about 80% of the Hadejia River's water is controlled by two big dams. These are the Tiga Dam and the Challawa Gorge Dam. Both of these dams are located in Kano State.
