Hajer Bahouri facts for kids
Hajer Bahouri (born March 30, 1958, in Tunis) is a brilliant mathematician from Tunisia and France. She is very interested in a special area of math called partial differential equations. These equations help us understand how things change over time and space, like how heat spreads or how waves move. Hajer Bahouri works as a top researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research. She also works at a special math lab at the University Paris-Est-Créteil-Val-de-Marne.
Her Journey in Math
Hajer Bahouri started studying mathematics in 1977 at the University of Tunis. She finished her studies there in 1979 and even won the President's Award!
After that, she moved to Paris to continue her education. In 1980, she earned a special degree called a Master of Advanced Studies from University Paris-Sud. She then completed her doctorate degree in 1982. Her research was about how to solve certain math problems called "Cauchy problems." Her advisor was Serge Alinhac.
From 1984 to 1988, she taught math at different universities, including University of Paris-Sud and Rennes-I. In 1987, she earned another important degree, her doctoral degree (habilitation), from the University of Paris-Sud.
Starting in 1988, she became a professor at the University of Tunis. There, from 2003, she led a special lab focused on partial differential equations. From 2002 to 2004, she also taught at École Polytechnique. Since 2010, she has been a Research Director at the National Center for Scientific Research. She works at the Laboratory of Analysis and Applied Mathematics at the University Paris-Est-Créteil-Val-de-Marne.
Awards and Recognition
Hajer Bahouri has received several important awards for her work in mathematics.
In 2001, she was given the Tunisian Medal of Merit. This is a special honor from her home country.
In 2002, she was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing, China. This is a very big and important meeting for mathematicians from all over the world. She spoke alongside Jean-Yves Chemin about "Quasilinear wave equations and microlocal analysis."
In 2016, she won the Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet Prize. This is another significant award that recognizes her contributions to mathematics.
