How the Song Started
The very first time people heard a part of this song was in 1984. It was used in some radio plays. Then, starting in 1985, a new version called "Hallo Vriendjes" became the official opening song for all their TV seasons. When the shows ended, a slightly different version called "Dag Vriendjes" (meaning Bye, Boys) would play.
The short version of the song, which was about 23 seconds long, was always used to open and close their live shows and events. This short version is considered the standard one.
Different Song Versions Over Time
The "Hallo Vriendjes" song has changed a bit over the years. Here are some of the different versions:
1985: Early TV Show Version
For their TV show "Het Geheim Van De Schatkaart" (The Secret Of The Treasure Map), the music was similar to other songs, but the words were a little different. Aad Klaris helped create the music for this version.
1985: The Standard Version
From 1985 onwards, this slightly sad-sounding version was used for most of their live shows. It was also in short TV clips made for Belgian television and in their tenth TV season, "Liedjes Uit Grootmoeders Tijd" (Songs From Times Gone, 1995). Aad Klaris also arranged this version. You could find this version on most of their CDs and tapes released between 1985 and 1996.
1988-1994: Longer TV Show Version
A longer version of the song was made for some of their TV seasons, like "De Verdwenen Kroon" (1988), "De Geheimzinnige Opdracht" (1992), and "De Reis Vol Verrassingen" (1994). This version featured instruments like a flute. Aad Klaris arranged these too.
1989: Greek Style Version
For the TV series "De Verzonken Stad" (The Drowned City), which was set in Greece, a special Greek-style version of the song was created. It was also on a CD called "Radiostation No. 2 Vanuit Griekenland" (Radio Station No.2 From Greece). Aad Klaris was the arranger.
1994: Caribbean Style Version
When the soundtrack for "De Reis Vol Verrassingen" (The Journey Full Of Surprises) was released, a fun Caribbean-style remix was made for the opening song. This was also arranged by Aad Klaris.
1997: New Standard Version
From 1997, a new remix of the song, featuring the flute, became the standard opening and closing song for all their live shows. Bert Smorenburg arranged this version. When their TV series were updated in 2010 and 2011, this short version was also used for the TV shows. You can find this version on all their CDs and tapes released since 1998.
2003: TV Series Update Version
In 2003, when almost all of Bassie & Adriaan's TV series were updated, a brand new version of the song was made. It also featured instruments like the flute. Bert Smorenburg arranged this version. This new song replaced all the older versions used in the TV series.
