Halls is a small, unincorporated community located in Buchanan County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
A Look Back: Halls' History
This community wasn't always called Halls. Its first name was "Eveline." A post office, which is a place where mail is sent and received, was opened in Eveline in 1866.
How Halls Got Its Name
The name of the community changed from Eveline to Halls in 1876. This new name was chosen to honor a very important person: Willard Preble Hall. He was the 17th Governor of Missouri, serving from 1864 to 1865. A governor is the leader of a state's government. The post office in Halls continued to serve the community for many years but eventually closed in 1954.
