The Story of Hamburg's Past
Hamburg was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1850. This process is called "platting." It means people decided where streets and building lots would go.
A post office opened in Hamburg in 1850. It was named "Hamburgh" back then. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing in 1854.
Around that time, a new railroad was built nearby. This railroad made it easier for businesses to move their goods. But the railroad went through a different town called Eldorado. Because of this, many businesses moved to Eldorado. As a result, Hamburg's population became much smaller.
