Hamilton Parish is one of the nine special areas, called parishes, in Bermuda. It was first known as Bedford Parish. Later, it was renamed after a Scottish nobleman named James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess of Hamilton. He lived from 1589 to 1625. The parish got its new name when he bought shares in a company called the Virginia Company. These shares were originally owned by Lucy, Countess of Bedford.

Hamilton Parish is located in the northeast part of Bermuda. It is one of the nine parishes that make up the island. Parishes are like different districts or regions within Bermuda. They help organize the island.

This parish was first called Bedford Parish. It was named after Lucy, Countess of Bedford. She was an important person who owned shares in the Virginia Company. This company was very active in the early days of exploring and settling new lands.

Later, a Scottish nobleman named James Hamilton bought these shares. Because of his new ownership, the parish was renamed in his honor. This is how Bedford Parish became Hamilton Parish.
