Han Bok-ryeo was born in 1947. She is the oldest daughter of Hwang Hye-seong, who was also a pioneer in Korean royal court cuisine. Han Bok-ryeo followed in her mother's footsteps.
She studied at several universities to learn about food. She earned her master's degree in Horticulture from The University of Seoul. She also studied Food Engineering at Korea University. Later, she received her doctorate in Food and Nutrition from Myongji University.

Han Bok-ryeo works hard to keep Korean royal court cuisine alive. Her mother worked to organize and record these traditional recipes. Han Bok-ryeo helps to recreate these dishes and make them popular again.
