Handley got its name from a person named J. M. Handley. He was an early postmaster in the area. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office, which is where people send and receive mail.

The Handley post office first opened its doors in the year 1900. It helped people in the community send letters and packages. However, it didn't stay open for very long. The post office closed just five years later, in 1905. Even though the post office is gone, the name Handley still reminds us of its past.
