Hannah Starkey is a British photographer born in 1971. She is famous for creating unique pictures that show women in city environments. Her photos often look like scenes from a play, even though they are about everyday life. She lives and works in London. In 2019, she received a special award called an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society.

Her recent exhibition, Hannah Starkey: In Real Life, was shown at The Hepworth Wakefield in April 2023.

About Hannah Starkey

Hannah Starkey was born in Belfast. She studied photography and film at Napier University in Edinburgh from 1992 to 1995. Later, she continued her photography studies at the Royal College of Art in London from 1996 to 1997. Today, she lives and works in London.

Her more recent photographs often look like they are from a movie or a play. They show women in carefully arranged settings. For example, a woman might be holding a Coca-Cola in a pub, or standing inside a public restroom. Hannah Starkey says her work explores "everyday experiences and observations of inner city life from a female perspective." This means she shows what daily life in the city looks like through the eyes of women.
