Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Harrison Square is a cool project in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It helped make the downtown area new and exciting! It includes a special baseball park, which is the home field for the Fort Wayne TinCaps team.

The project also has new shops, offices, and apartments. There's even a Courtyard by Marriott hotel, which is handy for people visiting the Grand Wayne Convention Center or the Embassy Theatre. Plus, there's a park right next to it with a stage and a fountain.

The baseball park at Harrison Square is called Parkview Field. It cost about $30 million to build! It has 6,000 fixed seats, but it can hold even more people, up to 8,000 or 9,000. This is because there are extra spots like grassy hills (called berm seating) and places with bars and tables.

A company called Populous designed the ballpark. They made it look a bit old-fashioned, taking ideas from other cool buildings in Downtown Fort Wayne. You can find the ballpark at the corner of West Brackenridge Street and Ewing Street.

In 2008, Parkview Health System agreed to have their name on the ballpark for 10 years. They also provide health and food services there.

The Harrison Apartments

The Harrison apartments cost around $14.5 million. There are 44 apartments located on the third and fourth floors of the building. If you live in an apartment facing south, you get a great view of the baseball park! More apartments were planned to be built after the first ones filled up.

Shops and Offices

The shops in Harrison Square are worth about $6 million. They cover an area of about 2,230 square meters (24,000 square feet) on the ground floor of The Harrison building, along West Jefferson Boulevard. Just like the apartments, the shops also have nice views of the ballpark.

Today, you can find a Three Rivers Federal Credit Union and an Irish restaurant called O'Reilly's here. The entire second floor of The Harrison building is used by a law firm called Carson Boxberger LLP.

Hotels for Visitors

A Courtyard by Marriott hotel with 250 rooms is located at the corner of West Jefferson Boulevard and South Harrison Street. In 2010, a special bridge called a skywalk was built. It connects the third floor of the hotel to the Embassy Theatre, so people can walk between them easily. This hotel also has a Champions Sports Bar and Restaurant.

In 2019, another hotel, a six-story Hampton Inn, was added between The Harrison building and the Courtyard by Marriott. This new hotel has two restaurants: Burger Bar on the first floor and Connor's Rooftop on the very top!

Parking Garage

There's a large parking garage that cost $10 million to build. It's located at the corner of South Harrison Street and West Douglas Avenue. This garage has 900 parking spaces, and 300 of them are just for guests staying at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

In 2008, during construction, workers accidentally hit a natural gas line. This caused a small fire that burned for about an hour. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the parking garage only had very minor damage.
