Enviri started a long time ago, in 1853. It was first called The Harrisburg Car Manufacturing Company. Later, in 1935, its name changed to Harrisburg Steel Corporation.
After buying several other companies, it became Harsco Corporation in 1956. At that time, Harsco had three main parts, called divisions. These were Metals & Minerals, Rail, and Industrial.
By the early 1990s, Harsco's products and services were used in many areas. These included defense, industry, and construction. The company had over 250 places for making, recycling, and selling products. These places were in 14 different countries.
In 2018, Harsco bought a company called Altek. Altek is from the UK and makes equipment for processing aluminum.
In 2019, the Harsco Metals & Minerals division changed its name to Harsco Environmental. Also in 2019, Harsco bought Clean Earth. Clean Earth is a U.S. company that helps manage special types of waste.
In April 2020, Harsco Corporation bought the Environmental Solutions business (ESOL). This business was part of Stericycle, Inc. Finally, in 2023, the company officially changed its name to Enviri.
Today, Enviri is the main company. It has three important divisions: Clean Earth, Harsco Environmental, and Harsco Rail. Other companies that are part of Enviri include Altek, SteelPhalt, and Black Beauty Abrasives.
