Hatfield is a small community located in Spencer County, Indiana, in the United States. It is an "unincorporated" area, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. However, it is still recognized as a census-designated place (CDP) by the government for counting people. In 2020, about 708 people lived in Hatfield.

History

Hatfield has an interesting past! It was first known by a different name: Fair Fight. A man named James Hatfield officially planned the community in 1883. Just a few years later, in 1886, a post office opened in the area. This post office was named Hatfield, and that's how the community got its current name.

Who Lives There?

The study of how many people live in a place, and other facts about them, is called "demographics." The United States government counts everyone every ten years in what's called a census. According to the 2020 census, 708 people lived in Hatfield.
