Hattians facts for kids
The Hattians were an ancient people who lived in a land called Hatti. This region was in central Anatolia, which is now part of modern-day Turkey. They were one of the earliest known groups to live there.
History
The name "Hatti" is very old. It was used by people from other lands, like the Assyrians, to describe this area. For example, ancient clay tablets from Mesopotamia, dating back to around 2350 to 2150 BC, mention "hatti matu." These tablets show that traders from Assyria asked their king, Sargon the Great of Akkad, for help. This tells us that the land of Hatti was known and had connections with other powerful kingdoms even thousands of years ago.
The Hattians had their own unique language, which is called Hattic. It was different from the languages spoken by their neighbors. Over time, another powerful group, the Hittites, moved into the region. The Hittites eventually took over the land of Hatti. They even adopted some of the Hattian culture, including their religious beliefs and some of their words. This shows how important the Hattians were in shaping the early history of Anatolia.
