Hayden Foxe's Club Career
Playing in Europe
Hayden started his soccer journey at a club in Sydney called Blacktown City. Later, he moved to the famous Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, where he played from 1995 to 1997. He quickly became known as a very talented young defender.
After his time in the Netherlands, Hayden moved to Japan to play for Sanfrecce Hiroshima from 1998 to 1999. He became a key player for his team and also for his country. His strong performances helped him get a move to England.
In 2000, Hayden joined West Ham United in England. To help him get fit for matches, he was first loaned to a Belgian club called Mechelen. He returned to West Ham, but it was a tough time for him in the Premier League, England's top soccer league.
In 2002, Hayden moved to Portsmouth. He was a very important player when Portsmouth won the First Division title in 2003. This win meant they were promoted to the Premier League! Sadly, a foot injury stopped him from playing for a long time. After his contract ended in 2005, he left Portsmouth.
Hayden then trained with Leeds United and signed a contract with them in 2006. He tried hard to get back to his best, but he didn't play many games. Leeds United was relegated to a lower league, and Hayden left the club at the end of the 2006–07 season. He scored one goal for Leeds against Luton.
Playing in Australia
In 2007, Hayden returned to Australia to play for Perth Glory in the A-League. He missed the start of the season because of a knee injury. However, he came back to play the last six games of the 2007–08 season. After the 2008–09 season, he left Perth Glory.
On January 7, 2010, Hayden made a comeback to the A-League. He joined Sydney FC for a short time to help with injuries in the team. His coach, Vítězslav Lavička, was very impressed with him. Hayden then signed a longer contract and became the team's vice-captain.
Hayden Foxe announced he was retiring from playing soccer at the end of the 2010–11 A-League season.
