Haydraw, South Dakota facts for kids
Haydraw is a small place in South Dakota, a state in the United States. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Meade County.
A Look Back: Haydraw's History
Haydraw got its name because it was a great place for growing hay! Hay is a type of grass that farmers cut and dry to feed animals like cows and horses. A long time ago, in 1910, a special building called a post office opened in Haydraw. This was where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office was an important part of the community for many years. However, in 1954, the post office closed down. Even though the post office is gone, Haydraw remains a quiet community in South Dakota.
