Newport Wasps (Conference League) –2012

Hayley Stadium was a special stadium built just for motorcycle speedway races. It was located in Queensway Meadows, on the eastern side of Newport, Wales. The track was about 311 yards long, which is roughly the length of three football fields placed end-to-end.

This stadium was the home of the Newport Wasps speedway team. Speedway is an exciting sport where motorcycles race around an oval dirt track. The riders don't have brakes, and they slide their bikes around the corners!

The Newport Wasps and Their Home

The Newport Wasps were a well-known speedway team. They competed in the Conference League, which is a division for speedway clubs. Hayley Stadium was their main training ground and where they held their home races. Fans would gather there to cheer on their favorite riders.

The Stadium's End

Sadly, Hayley Stadium didn't last forever. In 2012, the Newport Wasps team stopped operating, which is often called "folding" in sports. This meant they no longer had a team to race.

Soon after the team folded, the stadium closed its doors. Within a week of its closure, the offices inside the main stand were damaged by fire. After this, Hayley Stadium was taken down, or "demolished," as it was no longer in use. Today, the site where the stadium once stood is used for other purposes.
