Haylmore Creek is a stream in British Columbia, Canada. It is the largest tributary (which means a smaller stream that flows into a larger one) of the Gates River. This creek starts high up in the central Cayoosh Range mountains. It then flows northwest until it joins the Gates River. This meeting point is near a small community called Devine, British Columbia. This area is part of the beautiful Lillooet Country in the southern part of British Columbia.

Where Does Haylmore Creek Flow?

The valley of Haylmore Creek has different sections. Higher up, the creek's valley is shaped by three bowl-like areas. These areas are located right against the main ridge of the Cayoosh Range mountains. They are also found along the north side of Duffey Lake.

A Bit of History: Gold and Ghost Towns

One of the areas in the upper valley is near a stream called Common Johnny Creek. This spot was once home to a gold-mining community called Barkley Valley. Today, Barkley Valley is a "ghost town." This means it is a former town where no one lives anymore.

Who Was Will Haylmore?

Haylmore Creek is named after a person! His name was Will Haylmore. He worked as a Mining Sub-Recorder for the Bridge River Mines District. This job involved keeping records for the gold mines in the area. Even though his last name is usually said as "HAIL-more," the creek's name is often pronounced a bit differently, like "HAIL-ey-more."
