Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Hardy Boys: Undercover Brothers is a cool series of detective books for young readers. It's published by Aladdin Paperbacks, which is part of Simon & Schuster. This series took the place of the older Hardy Boys books in 2005. All the books are written by an author using the pen name of Franklin W. Dixon.

Meet the Undercover Brothers

The Undercover Brothers series is all about two teenage detective brothers, Frank and List of The Hardy Boys characters#Joe Hardy. Their dad, Fenton Hardy, is a super famous private investigator. While this series has many things in common with the older Hardy Boys books, it also has some exciting new changes:

  • The Hardy boys work as undercover agents for a top-secret government group called American Teens Against Crime (ATAC). Their dad helped start ATAC. They solve more realistic and sometimes dangerous crimes. Since ATAC is secret, Frank and Joe often have to make up reasons to tell their mom and aunt why they need to go places.
  • The books are written in a first-person narrative style. This means Frank and Joe take turns telling the story in different chapters. They even sometimes interrupt each other!
  • The Hardy boys' aunt, Gertrude, is now called Trudy. She is also much younger in this series than in previous ones.
  • Frank and Joe's long-time girlfriends, Callie Shaw and Iola Morton, appear in the books. However, Frank and Joe are no longer dating them. Other friends from the original series are sometimes mentioned but don't play big roles.
  • The Hardys have a pet parrot named Playback.
