Heather Bishop's Early Life

Heather Bishop was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. As a child, she learned to play the piano. When she was a teenager, she started playing the guitar. Later, she took singing lessons in Winnipeg. She earned a university degree in 1969. In the early 1970s, she performed with an all-women band called Walpurgis Night. She started as a pianist and then became a singer. In 1976, she began her solo singing career at the Regina Folk Festival.

Her Amazing Music Career

Heather Bishop became one of Canada's top performers in the 1980s. She was known for both feminist music and children's music. She has a powerful and warm singing voice. Heather has been a part of the folk music scene since the late 1960s. She has performed at many folk festivals. These include the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Home County Folk Festival in London, Ontario. She has also been a regular guest at children's festivals in Canada and the United States. Heather was a frequent guest on the popular Fred Penner Show.

In 1976, she started her own record company, Mother of Pearl Records. Her first album for children was called Belly Button: A Collection of Songs for Children. It was released in 1982. She has made 15 albums in total. Two of her albums, A Taste of the Blues (1987) and Chickee's on the Run (1997), were nominated for Juno Awards.
