Hebe Uhart (born December 2, 1936 – died October 11, 2018) was an important writer from Argentina. She was known for her interesting stories and novels. In 2017, she won a big prize called the Manuel Rojas Ibero-American Narrative Award for her writing.

Hebe Uhart's Journey as a Writer

Hebe Uhart studied Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). After her studies, she became a teacher. She taught students of all ages, from primary school to university. She worked at the UBA and the National University of Lomas de Zamora.

Hebe lived in Buenos Aires, a large city in Argentina. There, she led special classes called literary workshops. In these workshops, people learned how to write their own stories. She also wrote for newspapers and magazines often, like El País in Montevideo.

Some of her stories were even turned into a play! The play was called Querida mamá o guiando la hiedra. It was directed by Laura Yusem. In 2010, a special book was published. It was called Relatos reunidos and collected many of her short stories and novels from 1962 to 2004.

Awards and Special Honors

Hebe Uhart received several important awards for her writing. These awards recognized her talent and hard work.

  • 2004 – She received a Konex Award Merit Diploma. This was for her short stories written between 1999 and 2003.
  • 2011 – The Book Foundation gave her an award for the Best Argentine Book of Literary Creation. This was for her collection of stories, Relatos reunidos.
  • 2014 – She received another Konex Award Merit Diploma. This time it was for her short stories from 2004 to 2008.
  • 2015 – She won a prize from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes. This is a national arts fund in Argentina.
  • 2017 – She received the Manuel Rojas Ibero-American Narrative Award. This is a very important award for writers in Spanish and Portuguese.
