Helen Eugenia Parker (born 1909, died around 1940) was an American architect. She was a talented woman who helped design buildings and worked for important groups.

Early Life and Education

Helen Eugenia Parker was born on November 17, 1909. Her parents were Walter Eugene Parker and Willie Parker. They lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Helen was one of seven children in her family. Later, her family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas.

In 1926, Helen graduated from Wiley High School-College in Marshall, Texas. This school is known as Wiley College today. She was a very good student. It is also thought that she studied at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Working as an Architect

After her studies, Helen Parker went back to Little Rock for a short time. There, she taught math at a public high school. She also worked as a librarian at a separate library for Black people. She even helped the Southern Tenant Farmers Union, a group that supported farmers.

Around the 1930s, Helen moved to Detroit, Michigan. In Detroit, she taught a special program called the Shop Drafting Training Program. This program was part of the National Youth Administration. This was a government program that helped young people find jobs during the Great Depression.

Helen also worked as a drafter for two important Black architects. They were Alfonso R. Feliciano and Donald Frank White. She helped design Trinity Hospital in Detroit. This hospital served the Black community and closed in 1962.

Helen Parker was also involved in her community. She was a board member for the Peter Pan Nursery. She was also part of professional groups like the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and the National Technical Association. She was also active in the Detroit Youth Assembly.

Later Years

Helen Parker passed away sometime after 1940.
