Who Was Henrietta Maria Stanley?

Henrietta was born in 1687. Her father was the 9th Earl of Derby. When her father died in 1709, one of his special titles, Baron Strange, was shared between Henrietta and her younger sister, Lady Elizabeth. This meant no one could fully use the title yet.

Becoming Baroness Strange

Sadly, Lady Elizabeth passed away in 1714. This made Henrietta the only person left to inherit the title. So, she officially became the 4th Baroness Strange.

Henrietta's Marriages

Henrietta married twice in her life.

  • Her first marriage was on May 21, 1706. She married the 4th Earl of Anglesey. This made her the Countess of Anglesey. The Earl of Anglesey passed away in 1710.
  • Later, on July 24, 1714, Henrietta married again. Her second husband was the 3rd Baron Ashburnham. He later became the Earl of Ashburnham. After this marriage, she was known as Lady Ashburnham.

Her Child and Passing

Henrietta and her second husband had one child. She was also named Henrietta. This daughter later became the 5th Baroness Strange, following in her mother's footsteps.

The 4th Lady Strange passed away in 1718. She was buried in a place called Ashburnham, in East Sussex. After her death, there was a discussion about who owned some land she had inherited. This needed a special decision from the government at the time.
