This historic house was designed by Seely Brown. He was a well-known architect in Champaign. The house shows off the beautiful Queen Anne style. This style was popular for homes in the late 1800s.

What Makes It Special?

The Henry Ahrens House has two and a half stories. It has an interesting, uneven shape. The roof is also unique, with different parts. Some sections are sloped (hipped), and others are pointy (gabled).

You can see fancy wooden tiles on the pointy parts of the roof. These same tiles also decorate a porch roof. They are even on the top of a three-sided window that sticks out.

The house has a porch that wraps around the front. It is held up by round, shaped columns. These columns have cool, decorative supports at the top. They look like wavy and half-circle shapes.

A National Treasure

The Henry Ahrens House is very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 22, 2011. This means it is recognized as a special historic place in the United States.
