Henry Bayntun (1621–1672) was an English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like the parliament of England, from 1661 to 1672.
Early Life and Education
Henry Bayntun was born in 1621 and was baptised on 14 November. His father was Sir Edward Bayntun of Bromham, Wiltshire. His mother was Elizabeth Maynard.
When he was about 14 years old, Henry went to St John's College, Oxford in 1638. After his studies, he traveled abroad from 1640 to 1643.
Military Service
During a time of conflict in England, Henry Bayntun joined the Royalist army. He served as a captain of horse (a cavalry officer) from 1643 to 1644. The Royalist army supported King Charles I during the English Civil War.
Political Career
In 1661, Henry Bayntun became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the House of Commons. He was elected for the area of Chippenham.
He served in a special parliament known as the Cavalier Parliament. This parliament was formed after the monarchy was restored in England. Henry Bayntun was re-elected for Chippenham after his first election was sorted out.
Family and Later Life
Henry Bayntun married Joanna Trimnell by 1653. They had a son named Edward and two daughters. Joanna passed away in 1675.
Henry Bayntun died when he was about 50 years old. He was buried in Bromham on 10 November 1672.
