Henry Cullen's Life Story
Henry Cullen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was a famous doctor and scientist named William Cullen. His mother was Anne Johnstone. Henry also had an older brother named Robert Cullen, who later became a judge.
The Cullen family lived in a place called Mint Close, which was on a historic street called The Canongate. This area was once home to Scotland's old money-making factory, the Scottish Mint.
His Education and Studies
Henry went to the High School in Edinburgh. After that, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He worked very hard and earned his medical degree in 1780.
Becoming a Member of Important Societies
Henry Cullen was a member of the Philosophical Society of Edinburgh. This was a group of smart people who discussed new ideas. When the society received a special permission from the king (called a royal charter), Henry was still a member.
In 1783, he also helped start a new important group called the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His brother, Robert, was also one of the first members of this society.
When Henry Cullen Died
Henry Cullen passed away in Edinburgh on October 11, 1790. He was only 32 years old.
