Henry Golding's Early Life
Henry Golding was born in Sarawak, Malaysia, in the Betong area. His mother, Margaret Likan Golding, is from the Dayak Iban group in Sarawak. His father, Clive Golding, is British. Henry's family lived in Terengganu for about five years. Then, when Henry was eight, they moved to Surrey, England. He went to The Warwick School in Redhill there. When he was 21, Henry moved to Kuala Lumpur. He wanted to find roles on TV and in movies. Before that, he worked as a hairdresser in London for a few years.
Henry Golding's Career in Film and TV
Henry Golding started working as a TV presenter in 2008. He hosted a weekly football show for ESPN. He also presented The Travel Show for the BBC and Surviving Borneo for Discovery Channel Asia.
In March 2017, Henry was chosen for the movie Crazy Rich Asians. This happened after a worldwide search for actors. He starred alongside Constance Wu. The director, Jon M. Chu, noticed Henry because of his charm. This helped him get his first big acting role. Crazy Rich Asians came out in the United States and Canada on August 15, 2018. It was a big hit and became the number one movie on its opening weekend.
A month later, Golding appeared in the thriller A Simple Favor. He played Sean, the husband of Blake Lively's character. Anna Kendrick also starred in the movie. After the success of Crazy Rich Asians, Henry Golding was cast in the romantic comedy Last Christmas. He starred with Emilia Clarke. Filming for this movie started in November 2018 and finished in February 2019. The movie was released on November 8, 2019.
Golding also acted in The Gentlemen (2019). This was a crime film directed by Guy Ritchie. He starred with Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Grant. Henry then played Kit in the film Monsoon. In this movie, Kit travels from London to Vietnam, his birth country. He goes there to scatter his parents' ashes.

Henry Golding's Personal Life
Henry Golding met Liv Lo, a Taiwanese TV presenter and yoga teacher, on New Year's Day in 2011. They got engaged in 2015 and married in August 2016 in Sarawak. They live in Venice Beach, California. They have two daughters, born in 2021 and 2023.
Before he got married, Henry completed a special journey. It was called bejalai, an Iban tradition for boys becoming men. He filmed this experience for two months in the wilderness of Borneo. The journey was part of the documentary series Surviving Borneo for Discovery Channel Asia. At the end of his journey, he received a traditional bejalai tattoo. This tattoo is on his right thigh. It shows a fig tree wrapping around other trees.
When asked about his last name, Golding shared an interesting story. He said his grandfather might have been adopted by a Jewish family during the war in London.
